Spiritual Hunger

Who Will Revival Come To?

The coming of revival is spoken of as rain.

Isaiah 44:3 – For I will pour water upon him who is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. I will pour My Spirit upon your offspring, and My blessing upon your descendants.

Isaiah 41:17-18 – The poor and needy seek water and there is none and their tongue fails for thirst.  I, the lord will answer them, I the God of Israel, will not forsake them.  I will open rivers on the bare heights and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry land springs of water.

God will put water upon the one who is thirsty and floods upon the one who is dry. Hunger and thirst are forces that motivate people to action. Many people work at a job that don’t like just to have food and drink.

Those who hunger and thirst for God and for His moving are motivated to seek Him with all of their hearts. When your tongue fails for thirst, you will put your whole life’s efforts into seeking something to quench your thirst. When you get to the point of focus and desperation where your tongue fails for thirst, the Lord will answer you. He will open rivers and fountains to such an extent that all the wilderness areas in your life will overflow with His presence, and then as He continues to fill you, all of the areas around you will become pools of water.

Revival will start in individual hearts and spread from there to cities and nations.  So part of praying for revival is a hunger for God Himself to fill your life that you can’t help but pray and pray and pray as you seek Him with all of your heart.

Some quotes by John G. Lake from his book “Spiritual Hunger”

“No matter what your soul may be coveting, if it becomes the supreme cry in your life, not the secondary matter, or the third or fourth, the fifth or tenth, but the supreme desire of your soul, the paramount issue – all the powers and energies of your spirit, soul and body are reaching out and crying out to God for the answer – it is going to come.”

“Brother Parham was preaching in Texas.  A black man by the name of Tom Seymour came into his meeting.  Parham related his experience to Brother Tom and myself.  There was a deep hunger in that black man’s soul.  He worked as a waiter in a restaurant to support himself while preaching to a church of his own people.  He knew God as Savior and Sanctifier.  He knew the power of God to heal.  But as he listened to Parham, he became convinced of a bigger thing – the baptism of the Holy Ghost.  He went on to Los Angeles without receiving it, but he said he was determined to preach all of God he knew to the people. He said, before I met Parham, such a hunger to have more of God was in my heart that I prayed for five hours a day for two and a half years.  I got to Los Angeles and there the hunger was not less but more. I prayed, God what can I do?  The Spirit said, pray more.  There are better things to be had in spiritual life, but they must be sought out with faith and prayer.  I increased my hours of prayer to seven and prayed on for a year and a half more. God had put such a hunger into that man’s heart that when the fire of God came it glorified Him.  I do not believe any other man in modern times had a more wonderful deluge of God in his life than God gave to that dear fellow, and the glory and power of a real Pentecost swept the world.”  MORE EXAMPLES OF THIS

Here is a scripture that says the same thing:

Jeremiah 29:11-12 (Message) – I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.

If you are serious about finding and knowing the Lord and want Him more than anything else – He will make sure you won’t be disappointed. He’ll turn things around for you. I can count on it!. He will show up and transform your life and those around you!
